Early Season Inspiration

Dutch freestylers Sebastiaan Verschuren and Joost Reijns are teammates at the Amsterdam Swim Institute.  They put together this motivational, inspirational, fun-to-watch video of a day-in-the-life of a national-level Dutch swimmer.

The opening quote comes from the movie “Rocky Balboa” (the 2006 installment of the most inspirational movie series of all-time!)

Christian Berger – Statsman!

If there’s a statistic, record, or ranking in masters swimming, chances are that Christian Berger knows it.  A masters swimmer since 1981, Christian has been the visionary and leader behind tracking Canadian masters swimming statistics for more than 25 years.

An avid swimmer, Christian held Quebec Provincial Records in relays and ranked in the Quebec Top 10 in the 1980s.  But with his computer specialist background, he also made his mark on masters swimming by developing unique software, including the Aquabec program, a meet management tool that was used at all Quebec meets from 1985 to 2003.  He also wrote the Aquaplus program in 1991, which is team management software that keeps Quebec’s registration, swimmer, and performance information.

Christian has used his programs to produce club, provincial, and national rankings.  He’s also moved along with the times, developing and maintaining a website full of statistics and articles of interest about masters swimming and hosting a masters discussion forum, both favourites of many of our members.  Just yesterday,  Christian added “In Memoriam” entries for EMSC swimmers Tim Salpeter (2012) and Harold Johnston (2008) to his website.

Thanks, Christian, for everything you do for Canadian masters swimming.
